On Monday the Washington Capitals fired head coach Bruce Boudreau after 4+ seasons of service. During his tenure the Capitals won four division titles but failed to advance past the second round of any of their playoff appearances.
Bourdreau will be replaced by Dale Hunter, a name forever etched in the minds of Islander fans. Hunter is notorious for his cheapshot on Pierre Turgeon in the final game of the first round of the 1993 NHL Playoffs. Turgeon suffered a separated shoulder and sat out for the remainder of the post-season, thus minimizing any chance of an Islanders appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals.
But back to Boudreau. Despite an underachieving tenure as Capital’s head coach, Bordreau might best be remembered for his antics on HBO’s 24/7 series. High off the success of their Hard Knocks series, HBO followed the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins in anticipation of the 2011 Winter Classic.
During the four-part series, America received a behind the scenes look at Boudreau’s profanity filled tirades, during games, and in the team’s locker room. What is easily one of the most memorable scenes (and my favorite) came from a Boudreau family trip to the local mall. Showing his lighter side, Bordreau parades around the mall with his two sons in an effort to purchase his wife a Christmas gift. Hilarity ensues as Bordreau quickly becomes distracted by the bright lights of Haagen Daaz. What’s the problem in that? It’s not even 10 am!!!
Check it out for yourself:
In an effort to cheer up Bruce and provide sound financial advice, I offer a recommendation that will not only put food on the table, but give his family the Christmas they deserve.
Grow a mean white beard, pick up a XXL red snuggie, and get your ass back to that local mall. If hockey isn’t your true calling then a seasonal position as Santa Claus is. I mean, you already have the body type and nobody’s going to tell you can’t eat ice cream whenever the hell you feel like it. Happy Holidays!
